Lead AbatementRemove the hazard. Respect the building.

ACCT helps project teams and property owners manage lead-painted materials with professional controls, careful work practices and a practical plan.

Plan before disturbance

Lead hazards become project hazards when the work is unclear.

ACCT helps define where controls are needed and how the work fits the renovation, repair or demolition sequence.

Lead-based coatings are common in older homes, public buildings and institutional properties. When surfaces will be disturbed, the work demands deliberate containment, cleanup and coordination.

Common project triggers

When lead-painted materials affect renovation or repair

Lead-based paint may be present in homes and other buildings constructed before 1978. Peeling surfaces can create hazards, and cutting, sanding or demolition can spread contaminated dust when work practices are not controlled.

The ACCT approach

Lead hazard control that fits the project sequence

01

Review

Understand test results, affected components and planned work.

02

Isolate

Plan access and controls around occupants and adjacent areas.

03

Abate

Remove or control affected materials using project-appropriate practices.

04

Close out

Clean the work area and communicate completion requirements.

Lead questions

Before you disturb an older painted surface

Does a pre-1978 building automatically have lead paint?
No. Age increases the likelihood, but testing or existing records are needed to identify whether lead-based paint is present.
Can ACCT help with both homes and commercial properties?
Yes. ACCT handles residential, commercial, institutional and public-building work throughout its three-state service region.
What information helps with an estimate?
Provide the property address, building age, test results, photos, the components involved and the schedule for renovation or demolition.
