What we actually repair

Most AC breakdowns in the Valley come down to a short list of parts working too hard in too much heat. Here is what we find and fix most often:

• Failed capacitors and contactors. The number-one summer no-cool call. A worn capacitor cannot start the motors, and 115-degree afternoons finish them off. Usually a same-visit fix.
• Refrigerant leaks and low charge. We find the leak, show you where it is, and talk through repair versus recharge honestly instead of just topping it off and driving away.
• Frozen evaporator coils. Ice on the indoor coil almost always points to airflow or charge, not a dead system. We trace it to the cause.
• Blower and condenser fan motors. When the air stops moving, we test the motor and the capacitor feeding it before recommending anything.
• Thermostat and control faults. Sometimes the box on the wall is the whole problem. We check the cheap fixes first.
• Clogged condensate drains. A backed-up drain can shut a system down or leave water in a ceiling. Quick to clear, easy to prevent.

As a rough guide, a repair usually wins when the unit is under about ten years old, the fix is a single failed part, and the rest of the system is healthy. Replacement starts to make sense when the compressor fails on an older unit, repairs are stacking up season after season, or your energy bills are climbing because the equipment has simply worn out.
