Where 1991 began

Meet the founder.

Sterling Silver was not bought, franchised or inherited from a chain. It was started here, by a family, in 1991, and it has been run by that family every season since.

Thirty-five years, one owner

She never sold it. That is the whole story.

Most studios that reach thirty-five change hands at least once. The philosophy goes with the owner, and the families who stayed for the culture find out the hard way that the culture left.

Sterling Silver has been family owned and operated from the first season to Season 36. The person who decided in 1991 that every child moves at her own pace is the same person who decides it now.

It is the reason a parent can enrol a two year old with a reasonable expectation that the studio she graduates from in sixteen years will still be recognisably the same place.

One season to thirty-six

1991

The first season

Sterling Silver opens in the Twin Ports with a handful of students and the conviction that a dance studio should be a place a child wants to be.

1991

Company 91 is named

The competitive team takes the name of the founding year, and keeps it. Thirty-five years later, dancers still say it like it means something, because it does.

2000s

The first full circle

Students who began in toddler classes come back on the other side of the room as teachers. It becomes the studio's defining pattern.

Today

Season 36

Still family owned and operated, still in the Twin Ports, still teaching the grandchildren of the first families through the door.

We have never simply taught dance. We have raised dancers, and a great many confident, kind, unforgettable kids along the way.

What she built

The faculty came from here

The truest measure of thirty-five years is not the trophy case. It is how many of the teachers on the schedule this season first walked in as three year olds.
