We Check the Door Before the Opener

An opener is designed to guide a balanced door, not to lift a heavy one. If the springs are tired, a brand new opener will spend its life carrying weight it was never rated for, and it will fail early just like the last one did.

So the first thing we do is disconnect the opener and lift the door by hand. A balanced door holds halfway on its own. If yours does not, we deal with the springs first and you get a new opener that lasts.

Which Garage Door Opener Should You Buy?

The honest version, without steering you at the most expensive unit on the truck.

Drive typeBest forTrade-off
Belt driveAttached garages, and any room above or beside the garageCosts more than chain
Chain driveDetached garages and workshops where noise does not matterNoticeably louder
Wall mountLow-headroom garages, or when you want the ceiling clearHighest cost, needs the right door setup
Screw driveSimple installs with fewer moving partsLess common now, more sensitive to temperature

Horsepower matters less than people expect. Door weight and balance matter far more. We size it to your actual door.

Opener Features Worth Paying For

Not everything on the box is worth the money. These generally are.

Battery backupThe door still opens in an outage, which matters more than people think.
Rolling code securityThe code changes every use. Older fixed-code units are a real vulnerability.
Phone controlOpen, close and check status remotely, plus alerts if it is left open.
Soft start and stopGentler on the door and much quieter at both ends of travel.
Bright integrated lightingLED panels that actually light the garage.
Timer to closeCloses automatically after a set time if you forget.

Garage Door Opener Installation FAQs

Usually two to three hours including programming, assuming the door itself is in good shape and the power is where it needs to be.

Yes. We will tell you honestly if the unit is the wrong horsepower or drive type for your door before we install it, rather than after.

Belt for an attached garage, especially with a room above or beside it. Chain is fine for a detached garage or a shop and costs less. The noise difference is not subtle.

Yes. Remotes, exterior keypad, in-car buttons and the phone app if the unit has one, all paired and tested before we leave.

Door weight and balance matter far more than the number on the box. A properly balanced two-car door does not need the biggest motor available, and we size it to your actual door.
