(979) 977-25046 Common Garage Door Opener Problems
Openers fail in fairly predictable ways. Knowing which one you have helps when you call.
Nothing happens at all
No lights, no hum. Usually power: a tripped breaker, an unplugged unit, or a failed transformer inside the opener.
It hums but the door stays put
The motor is running and nothing is moving. Often a stripped drive gear, a snapped belt or chain, or a disconnected trolley.
The remote stopped working
One remote is usually a battery or a lost pairing. Every remote at once points at the logic board or the antenna.
The door reverses immediately
Almost always the safety sensors, either misaligned or blocked. Sometimes travel limits set wrong.
It runs, then stops partway
Force or travel settings out of adjustment, or a door binding somewhere in its run.
It strains and struggles
The opener is lifting weight the springs should be carrying. This is a door problem wearing out an opener.

Half of Opener Faults Are Not the Opener
An opener is designed to guide a balanced door, not to lift a heavy one. When the springs weaken, the opener starts carrying weight it was never rated for, and it fails early. If we replaced that opener without touching the springs, you would be buying another one in a couple of years.
So we test the door first. Disconnect the opener, lift the door by hand, and see whether it holds halfway on its own. A balanced door will. If yours drops or flies up, the problem is the springs and the opener was just the thing that complained loudest.
Sometimes it really is the opener, and then it is usually a gear, a board or a sensor. We tell you which, with the price, before we touch anything.

Garage Door Opener Repair FAQs
LiftMaster, Genie, Craftsman and Raynor, plus the other major makes. We repair and program them, and we install new units when repair is not the better money.
Start with the battery, then try the wall button. If the wall button works and every remote does not, it is usually pairing or the logic board. If nothing works, it is the opener or its power. We can usually narrow it down on the phone.
Usually the safety sensors are misaligned or the close-force setting is off. Both are adjustments rather than parts, and both are quick.
Ten to fifteen years is typical, but it depends heavily on how balanced the door is. An opener lifting a door with tired springs works far harder and dies far sooner, which is why we always check the springs on an opener call.
Yes. We will tell you honestly if the unit you bought is not the right horsepower or drive type for your door before we install it, rather than after.
