What To Do Right Now

A door that has come off its track is being held by whatever is still connected, usually the cables and the remaining rollers. That load is uneven, which is exactly the condition where things let go suddenly.

Do not run the opener, and do not try to lever it back on.

Unplug the opener so nobody tries it, keep cars and people out from under the door, and call us at (979) 977-2504. If the door is partly open and you need the cars, call us before moving anything.

Why Garage Doors Come Off Their Tracks

Off-track is a symptom, not a root cause. Something put it there, and if we only lift the door back into the track you will be calling us again.

Something hit the door

The most common cause by a distance. A bumper at low speed is enough to knock a door out of alignment.

A broken lift cable

When one cable goes, that side of the door drops and the rollers on that side come straight out.

Worn or seized rollers

A roller that will not turn drags instead of rolling, and eventually climbs out of the track.

Loose track hardware

The brackets holding the track to the frame work loose over years of vibration and let the track spread.

An unbalanced door

A door fighting its own springs puts side load on the track every single cycle.

Obstruction on the track

A stored item, a bike or a build-up of debris in the track is enough to derail a roller.

How We Put an Off-Track Door Right

1

Secure the door

Before anything else, the door gets clamped and supported so it cannot drop while we work on it.

2

Find the cause

Bent track, failed cable, seized roller or impact damage. We look before we lift, because the cause determines the fix.

3

Realign or replace the track

Minor splay can be trued up. A kinked or creased section gets replaced, because a bent track will just derail the door again.

4

Reseat and check the whole system

Rollers back in, cables re-seated on the drums, spring balance and safety reverse tested before we leave.

Off-Track Garage Door Repair FAQs

We really would not. The door is under uneven load, and the tools most people reach for, a pry bar or a screwdriver, are how a track goes from bent to destroyed and how hands get hurt. It is also rarely just the track: a cable or roller usually caused it.

Same-day service is available most days in Bryan and College Station, and an off-track door is the kind of call we prioritise because the car is usually stuck behind it. Call or text (979) 977-2504.

Often not. Minor splay can be trued up. A section with a kink or a crease in it gets replaced, because a bent track will simply derail the door again. We replace the section, not always the entire assembly.

Most commonly something hit it. After that: a broken cable, a seized roller, loose track brackets, or a door that was out of balance and putting side load on the track every cycle. We tell you which one it was so you are not calling us again in six months.

Usually we can get you moving the same day. Do not try to force the door up to get the car out; call us first and we will tell you whether it is safe to move anything.
